Maggie Kirkpatrick

Maggie Kirkpatrick created one of Australia’s most memorable drama characters in Australian television history, at the same time achieving the position of being one of our most admired and respected theatrical leading ladies.

She has worked extensively with all the theatre companies in Australia including Major Barbara, The Beauty Queen of Leenane, The Cripple of Inishmaan, A Delicate Balance, and The Ham Funeral for STC, Emerald City for MTC, three national tours of Shoehorn Sonata, and Farewell Brisbane Ladies and The One Day Of The Year for the State Theatre of South Australia. Maggie performed in Da and Night of the Iguana for the Old Tote Theatre Company. She was directed by Michael Blakemore in Death Trap and for JC Williamsons co-starred with Sir Michael Redgrave in Voyage Round My Father.

Large scale musicals include Irene, Anything Goes, Songs from A Side Show Alley, and Little Me. Maggie starred in the West End production of Prisoner Cell Block H – The Musical and co-starred with Susannah York in John Misto’s Shoehorn Sonata at London ’s Kings Head Theatre. Two national tours of the Prisoner Musical followed and Maggie returned to Australia in late 1997 to play the lead role of Betty in The Theatre Company production of A Passionate Woman. She has appeared extensively at Marian St Theatre in Love Letters, Absurd Person Singular, The Druids Rest, Sailor Beware and Social Climbers. Maggie’s most successful role at the Marian St Theatre was in Peggy For You where she was awarded the MO Award for the role of Margaret Ramsey in 2001. Maggie toured Australia and South East Asia with the hit musical Singin’ in the Rain for IMG and David Atkins. Maggie recently reprised her role starring opposite Topol in the national tour to of Fiddler on the Roof.

Amongst her television credits are All Saints, Blue Heelers, Water Rats, GP, The Ferrals, Hey Dad, The Miraculous Mellops, Dearest Enemy, Home and Away, Betty’s Bunch, Richmond Hill and of course, Joan Ferguson (The Freak) in Prisoner. Her feature films credits include Welcome to Woop Woop, Lillian’s Story, Billy’s Holiday, Encounters, The Pirate Movie, The Night of the Prowler, The Getting of Wisdom and the SBS-produced Feature With Mother. She recently shot a cameo role in the international series Pacific.
